I’m delighted to confirm funding of a total of €133,000 for flood mitigation and river conveyance works at Meelick, Lough Graney and Carrowgower.
€8,000 has been allocated for works on the Meelick River to resolve a long-running issue that has impacted the local GAA club for many years.
€35,000 has been approved for river channel clearance works on the River Graney, another long-standing issue. Both projects have received full approval under the OPW’s River Conveyance Blockages Fund.
€90,000 has also been approved for works at Carrowgower, near Quin, to strengthen and improve existing flood defences and provide protection from flooding from the Hell River.
These investments are important steps towards reducing flood risks in these communities.
I will continue to work with Clare County Council and the OPW to support practical flood mitigation measures elsewhere throughout the county.
