Today in the Dáil, I raised serious concerns with the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality about the future of childcare in County Clare.
By 2027, approximately 22,000 children in Clare will need childcare. However, only a small number of services and childminders have engaged with the new registration process to date. Existing providers are already under pressure, with long waiting lists and limited availability, particularly in rural areas.
I am seeking clear assurances that a practical, well-planned strategy will be put in place to retain existing childminders, support new entrants to the sector, and ensure families in Clare can access the childcare they need in the years ahead.
