Last week, the government adopted a proposal I brought to the Oireachtas for modular wastewater treatment systems to be added to existing plants or used for new developments. This could be a real game-changer for our smaller towns and villages.
I’ve already heard from builders ready to get started, but the process needs to move quickly. I’ve written to the Housing Minister asking for the next steps to be expedited so local authorities can grant planning permission without unnecessary delays. With a clear path forward, these systems can support rural communities, reduce costs for homeowners, and help bring life back to towns and villages that need it most.
I’ve also requested a meeting with Clare County Council’s Director of Service for Housing Delivery, Infrastructure Provision, and Land Activation to discuss how we can make this happen as quickly as possible.
