QUESTION
To ask the Minister for Housing; Local Government and Heritage the details of submissions received from Clare County Council for the development of new affordable housing schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
REPLY
Clare County Council is demonstrating a strong commitment to developing and delivering an affordable housing delivery programme that will respond effectively to identified needs for affordable housing within the County and in the key urban locations of Ennis and Shannon in particular.
My role as Minister is to lead the development of policy and legislation relating to the provision of affordable housing generally and to oversee the subvention of schemes approved under the Affordable Housing Fund. In line with Part 2 of the Affordable Housing Act 2021, the administration of an affordable purchase housing scheme, including its announcement once any contractual arrangements with developers are securely in place, is a matter for the relevant local authority.
Clare County Council will therefore be best placed to assist you in relation to prospective affordable schemes that are under development within the local authority area.
My Department, the Housing Agency and the Housing Delivery Coordination Office of the LGMA will continue to provide every reasonable support to enable Clare County Council to further develop its affordable delivery programme.
